Telescopes on the Sidewalk

In addition to our scheduled star parties at the Shreveport Observatory, the SBAS will hold impromptu star gazing events around Shreveport and Bossier. We have in the past set up our telescopes at the Rose Garden, the Red River National Refuge, LSU Shreveport, and other places. Check out our Face Book page frequently for information about future events. Click here to go to our Face Book Page.

This photo is from a 35th Hubble Anniversary Observing Challenge observing event at LSU Shreveport in March. 2025 is the 35th anniversary of the Hubble space telescope going into orbit. NASA is celebrating the anniversary with their Hubble Observing Challenge. Each month a list of deep sky objects (originally imaged by Hubble) is published and amateur astronomers can image the objects and submit their images for a monthly certificate or image all the objects for 2025 and receive a gold pin. Click here to go to the Hubble Observing Challenge Web Page. The Hubble Challenge is sponsored by both NASA and the Astronomical League. Check out the SBAS Facebook Page for future Hubble Challenge observing events. Click here for the SBAS Facebook Page.

We will be at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge this fall for a solar observing event this October. Check back for more information once the details are finalized. Click here for the Red River National Wildlife Refuge Web Page.
